David Thompson Snow Riders Grass Drags

The Final event for the 2006 SSRA season went off like fireworks.
WOW is all I can say. Cool damp weather created problems for us media type. Some 1800 spectators also felt the crunch. Mountain weather, Mountain air, Mountain sleds. Get the picture.
Some of the Mountain open sleds were over 400 hp. But like my brother says, "It does you no good unless you can put it on the ground."

Extreme Energy Racing
t ook King Open.

Brad Humble took my brothers words to heart and claimed victory in the King Open. Running a 4.5 second run was what he needed to get ahead of Jamie Hogg, Doug Buchholtz and Rick Sorken of Snow West Distributors, and he got it done. Congratulations to the Bunch at Extreme Energy Racing.

Turbos and 4 Cycles clawed up the track real good!

Like I mentioned, Mountain class was heavy with entrants, and so
it should be. Big hitters and turbos, made this class very exciting to watch. Some never got traction down the whole track. A good place for a dirt shower. Watching these monsters go, was sometimes scary.

Brad Enns finally felt some competition in ATV land. He was still able to hang on, but there was no room for mistake. Clint Bell was one the one's that was on his tail all the way. Hey Brad, watch out for next year. Some body will become inspired by what you have done. Lots of People looking, even Michel Arsenault of Sled Trails.

Micheal and me!

Michel is one good guy. I like this chap. Lots of vision and a deep rooted sense of whats really happening in the sledding world. Its really good to finally meet Micheal, "The Media Guru". You have to hit his shows on google or on his site. www.sledtrails.com .
Ahem, his programs are also tv.

One stand up racer is Dave Jarema from Smokey Lake, Alberta. At this race though, he was caught bouncing around. Story is that his throttle stuck on the starting line, and the sled popped up. Dave bailed, and bounced off his butt. The sled barrel rolled a few times, and came to rest on it's side. Dave was OK and the sled came back later to finish the day.

Dave Jarema took a mean bounce!

This is also a testament to the use of tether cords. Who knows where that sled would have gone if the tether wasn't working properly.
Test your tether!!!

BIG winner this weekend was Jim Enns, taking 3 stock classes. 700, 800, and 1000 on his F7. This really helped Jim in the points race for the SSRA. Way to go Jim.

Albert Ratti from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan took the Prostock 1000 on his Cat, by the hair of his chinney, chin chin. This was one of the most stimulating classes to watch. Trying to catch him Stacey Melnchuk on a Polaris. Stacey also had a good weekend, but not good enough to catch Albert. Albert caught a real good light and was able to fend off Stacey.

If anybody has followed Jamie Hogg and Hogg Wild Racing, you will see that he does very well world wide. He placed 2nd in this King Open event in a naturally aspirated Split Second/Wahl sled. Not a big deal? Wrong! There were 2 other sleds that were running on Nitrous, and more cc's. Way to keep it real Jamie. Ralph and your team have been keeping you in the top gun status. Trevour looks like he's starting to dig it!

The final placings can be found on the David Thompson Snow Riders website or on this website.

This weekend was topped off by monster truck and helicopter rides. Everyone had lots to do and lots to choose from.
A huge thanks to all the volunteers!
Racing would not be possible without you!
A bear hug out to Loraine Pillman.
She Loves To Snowmobile. Thanks.

The David Thompson Snow Riders did an outstanding job, and if you want to learn how to run a race, Check out their races. The union between the SSRA and The DTSR was a good one and I hope it continues!

Oh Yea! One more thing. The tech's this weekend were run off their feet, so a hug goes out to them! LOL.

Correction: I had previously mentioned that Doug Buchholtz was running Nitrous. This was not correct. He runs an ISR legal 1000 open mod/ heavy mod. Nitrous was on the sleds of Brad Humble and Rick Sorken. Jamie Hogg placed second, Doug placed 3rd, and Rick Sorken placed 4th. I've corrected the article above.
My sincere apologies to all that were involved in this mistake.

P.S. Snow West had 2 sleds in the King Open Final. Way to go!
