First off, I want to say thanks to Jamie Hogg and Kent Brooks for letting us tag along. It is very much appreciated. We had a blast, and sleeping beauty thanks you too! It was good to be in the pits, It was there that I came to realize that the TEAM feels the pressure as much as the driver. I was able to wander around and take in the general feeling of most teams. The pressure was on. This is THE WORLD CLASS event and with it goes a year of Victory or Defeat; No other event carries such prestige. The Sno Barons did their usually spectacular job of running the show, and The PSGDRA did a truly proffessional job, benefitting everyone. I met Ken Crouch and some of the officials, and I must say I was very impressed with them all. I can't say enough good things about this group, except that I hope to you there next year!! It was an exciting weekend as records fell in 2 classes that I know of, maybe more. First to fall was the open mod 500 in which Jamie Hogg ran 5.222. This was to fall again, when Dean Schroder bumped it up a notch with a 5.17. The open mod 1000 fell as well, with the introduction of the John Wheelock and Mike Knapp turbo RX1. This iron never looked back, except once. In the final, Jamie Hogg was hot on his heels at the line. He was told later, that during all the races, he never saw anyone except Jamie. I still need confirmation on these times, Jamie ran 4.42 and John Wheelock ran 4.29. I will get the times sorted out. When does a man really need his team?........ At the awards ceremony. Marchbank, Boyd and Grenier team, all went up to help carry the trophies and the checks. They deserve it. When Craig races, he races back to back. This year he brought 13 sleds and took home 13 finishes. 9 first place finishes is not a one man team, but a well organized, prepared group, ready and alert. Congratulations Team Marchbank, Boyd and Grenier. To watch your team work was indeed a site. John Sedor came down at the last minute and with some work, put together a 4th in 600 improved. Congratulations!! A young lad beside us, kindly let me use his trailer patio to film the finals, and turns out, Nate Baker of Baker Racing in Pinckney Michigan was the so mentioned lad. They won the 1000 improved. Thanks Nate. Randy Hazard of Hazard Racing had a sharp polaris line and was more than willing to share his pit chat with this Canuck. I really do enjoy visiting with all you. Zack had, what looked to a beating, when his sled popped up and never came down. Sliding off the back end, he started to tumble head over heels. It was a great relief to see he was OK after that. The bullet team must have been relieved. In talking to him afterward, he mentioned that it was only his ankle that was bothering him. I can't even fathom the feeling he must have had. Glad to see he was alright! Torco fuels may be on the way to Canada, so I wanted to plug it for a couple of really good guys. Allan and Eric, there is nothing like the smell of race fuel in the morning. I want to say that this year was a great year at Hay Days and if you get the chance, go. If you can't make it there, go support the local scene. These guys do go to Hay Days and they are world class competitors. The competition comes from all over to race here, and the video does not do it justice. The smokey drift of burgers, floating across the field, mixing gently with sweet aroma of Race exhaust.... What more could you ask for .Rick/Rebelsled |
