Wahl Bros. Racing Asphalt Challenge

The National Speed Association Pro Stock Asphalt Sled Series reached another milestone this season with the first annual Wahl Bros. Racing Asphalt Challenge series. The Wahl Challenge Champion was determined at the 4th Annual NSA Pro Stock Asphalt race, presented by Dalton Industries, at Maryland Int’l Raceway on Saturday August 16th, 2008. The Wahl points series came to an exciting ending as the Champion was determined in the final round of the last event in the 3-race mini-series.
The idea of the Wahl Bros Racing Asphalt Challenge came from Dave Wahl, owner of Wahl Bros. Racing Products. Dave Wahl has raced snowmobiles for decades and has contributed to the success of snowmobile racing through his undying dedication to the sport.
This season the Wahl Bros. Racing Asphalt Challenge was comprised of the following three NSA events:
June 28 – Maple Grove Raceway, Mohnton, PA
July 12 – New England Dragway, Epping, NH
August 16 – Maryland Int’l Raceway, Mechanicsville, MD
Jeremy Hannen (Durand, MI) took the early lead in the Wahl Challenge with his win in Mohnton, PA on the McBurney Racing Pro Stock Ski-doo. Then Jeff Cullen (Gray, ME) quickly jumped ahead with the lead after his win in Epping, NH on the Abbott Racing Polaris IQ.
The Wahl Challenge points battle came down to three competitors after the first round of the Maryland race – Jeff Cullen (Abbott Racing), Travis Merrill (Chuckaroo Motorsports and Ken Lund (Wise Man Racing). Cullen and Merrill met in the second round where Merrill took the points lead after his quicker ET defeated Cullen. Merrill went on to defeat Jay Pearl (Newport, ME) while Lund got a bye after his win over Scott Marsh (Highland, NY) in the 2nd round. Lund and Merrill finally matched up for a nail biting final round. The pair ran identical 8.46 ET’s but unfortunately Merrill went red giving the event win the Lund.
Wahl Bros. Asphalt Challenge Final Results
1st - Ken Lund, Brunswick, ME Wise Man Racing
2nd - Travis Merrill, Durham, ME Chuckaroo Motorsports
